Drag King Bilingual Storytime

Drag King Bilingual Story Time, where DRAG signifies Dancing, Reading, Arte y Ganas; kid-friendly events that are accessible to parents and help enrich a child's development while promoting inclusion!
19 Feb 2022
United States of America

Drag King Bilingual Storytime teaches simple lessons like learning colors, shapes, and counting but also promotes important subject matter like body positivity, gender identity through the introduction of pronouns, and pride in Mexican culture (We are all Mexican so we can't talk on other LATAM cultures). Culture is brought to life by reading bilingual children's literature. Story Time goes from bilingual to multilingual when books are also used to teach Nahuatl (ancient Aztec language) lessons! Each one-hour show includes craft time and joyful movement breaks and culminates with an interactive drag show of both drag and gender non-binary performances from Spanish-speaking pop icons. When covid began Los Mentirosos changed their platform from in-person to online streaming. They have flexed their creative muscles to add videography to their list of talents and have now created their online DKBST which can safely be attended from home via Zoom and Facebook Live. Craft time is made available for free by a pickup system of the upcoming Story Time Tool Kit for every child who wants one. Interactive lessons occur each show when our narrator, Nacho, turns the Zoom mics on and has one on one conversations with each attendee! Storytime is 100% free and is highly appreciated by families in our community, as this allows for kids and kids at heart of all economic backgrounds to participate. Subject matter of gender identity and pronouns has been a huge success and feedback from parents who were not sure how to approach these conversations has been overwhelming. Los MENtirosos could not be happier with the success of our mission to awaken and cultivate strength in our community by teaching our youngest family members about self-awareness, self-love and positivity.
